SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — After a shooting incident in central Sioux Falls on Wednesday, three individuals are currently in custody while a woman remains wanted by authorities. The chaotic events unfolded with a high-speed chase that ensued, with part of the dramatic sequence captured on surveillance video footage.

Surveillance Video Captures Suspect Vehicle

A Ring doorbell camera recorded the suspect vehicle, which had reportedly been stolen earlier in the day, speeding down 22nd Street. Police swiftly initiated pursuit, with speeds reaching up to 70 mph on city streets. The fugitive task force, coincidentally in the vicinity, also joined in the chase to apprehend the suspects.

Altercation Leads to Gunfire

The altercation that sparked the series of events began near the Midco Aquatic Center, where one of the suspects engaged in a confrontation with an innocent bystander. Captain Josh Phillips of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office revealed that a round was fired in the direction of the victim before the suspects fled the scene.

Collision and Arrests

During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle attempted a high-speed turn at the intersection of 22nd and Phillips Avenue, colliding with a parked car belonging to Nich Kemper. The impact of the crash prompted Kemper to investigate the commotion, only to find the aftermath of the collision.

Subsequently, the suspects ran over two small trees before continuing down Phillips Avenue. The chase came to a dramatic conclusion when the suspect vehicle ran a stop sign at Willow Avenue and 22nd Avenue, colliding with a pickup truck. Police swiftly apprehended two of the suspects at the scene, while a third individual who attempted to flee on foot was captured shortly thereafter.

Weapon Recovery and Suspect Identification

Upon searching the suspect vehicle, law enforcement did not initially locate a weapon. However, several hours later, a gun matching the description of the one used in the shooting was discovered on a sidewalk at 24th and South Lake. The three apprehended suspects have been identified as 19-year-old Corbat Heron, 19-year-old Shalena Alexander, both of Sioux Falls, and a 17-year-old individual. Authorities are still actively seeking another suspect, 19-year-old Karissa Becker.
