Accident – Death – Obituary News : RCMP major crimes officers have assumed control of the investigation into a suspicious death in eastern Saskatchewan. The incident took place in the community of Canora, located approximately 250 kilometres northeast of Regina. Authorities were alerted to the situation on Wednesday following reports of a 32-year-old man sustaining injuries at a residence in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the man, who was tragically pronounced dead by emergency medical services.
In a statement released on Thursday, Saskatchewan RCMP confirmed that the male’s death is currently being treated as suspicious. As a result, the investigation has been handed over to the RCMP Major Crimes unit. No details regarding the cause of death have been disclosed at this time, with authorities withholding additional information. The RCMP has assured the public that any potential risks associated with the crime will be communicated promptly.
Meanwhile, recent developments in another case have seen two individuals apprehended in connection with the killing of 31-year-old Lee Bearsears in a rural area on Poundmaker First Nation in October 2023. Craig Fox, 27, hailing from Little Pine First Nation, was arrested in Regina on June 17 and charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on July 4. Additionally, Preston Checkosis, 44, from Poundmaker First Nation, was taken into custody in Saskatoon on June 10 and charged with being an accessory after the fact. Checkosis made an appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 10.
In a separate incident, three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a homicide in northeast Saskatchewan. Police responded to a report of a wounded individual on June 22 at a residence on Hatchet Lake First Nation, situated around 1,000 kilometres north of Regina. The victim, identified as Christopher Joseyounen, 42, from Hatchet Lake First Nation, succumbed to his injuries following a physical altercation involving a group of people. Jean St. Pierre, 37, from Wollaston Lake, was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Additionally, Tricia St. Pierre, 36, from Hatchet Lake First Nation, and Tinnisha Josie, 18, from Wollaston Lake, were both charged with second-degree murder in connection to Joseyounen’s death. All three accused appeared in Wollaston Lake provincial court on Wednesday.
