BASTROP, La. (KNOE) – Authorities in Bastrop, Louisiana have made an arrest in connection to the discovery of human remains found on Sunday, June 23. The remains were located in the woods behind 1510 Daisy Street in Bastrop.
The body has been identified as that of 14-year-old Ashley Barnes, who was reported missing by her family on Thursday, June 20. Following the discovery of the remains, the family informed officers that they believed it to be Ashley.
A felony arrest warrant was issued by the Bastrop Police Department for 44-year-old Montrell Donell Holmes in relation to the case. Holmes was later located and arrested for second-degree murder by the U.S. Marshall’s Service in the State of Arizona, using cell phone tower pings.
Assistant Police Chief Richard Pace released a statement commending the efforts of the investigative team, including Capt. Gerald Givens and Detective Libby Brixey, for their dedication and hard work in bringing justice to Ashley and closure to her family.
