Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in Tolleson, Arizona, have apprehended a 35-year-old individual in relation to a shooting incident that occurred just outside the premises of a Gatorade factory in the West Valley city.

According to a statement released on June 26th, the incident transpired on the afternoon of June 25th. Tolleson Police responded to a report of gunfire in the vicinity of Van Buren Street and 107th Avenue at approximately 4:25 p.m., near the fenced property.

Upon investigation, law enforcement discovered numerous shotgun casings, small-caliber handgun casings, and live rounds of a small-caliber handgun scattered on the ground at the gated entrance. Additionally, an improvised incendiary device was found in an exterior employee break area, further indicating the severity of the situation.

The suspect, identified as Antwaine Lamar Woods, had fled the scene before officers arrived.

Witnesses informed responding officers that Woods, a former disgruntled employee of Gatorade, had threatened to ‘shoot up the place’ before discharging around 30 rounds of shotgun and handgun ammunition at the west wall of the Gatorade building and its surrounding infrastructure.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire or incendiary device, although damage to cooling towers and building walls was evident. Authorities managed to track down the suspect at Pioneer Park in Glendale.

Undercover officers from the US Marshals Task Force observed Woods fishing at the lake area and promptly arrested him without any resistance. A subsequent search of Woods’ vehicle yielded four additional incendiary devices and the firearms believed to have been used in the shooting incident. The Glendale PD Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit assessed the vehicle and devices to ensure they were safe for transportation.

During questioning by detectives, Woods claimed he was wrongfully terminated from his position at Gatorade in January 2024 and had ongoing grievances with the company. He admitted to firing multiple rounds at the water filtration tanks outside the Gatorade facility and throwing a Molotov Cocktail towards the building, although the incendiary device failed to ignite due to weather conditions.

Woods cited religious beliefs and Native American laws as the motivating factors behind his actions, stating that his intention was to disrupt production at the plant and have a financial impact on Gatorade, rather than cause harm to individuals.

Following the incident, Woods was incarcerated at Maricopa County Jail and is facing multiple criminal charges, including discharging a firearm at a non-residential structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits, misconduct involving simulated explosive devices, endangerment, and disorderly conduct.
