Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A recent probable cause affidavit has shed light on a shooting incident in McAllen that resulted in a teenager being hospitalized and two individuals facing legal repercussions. Angel Manuel Gonzalez, 18, has been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon (brain injury/paralysis) while Hiram Zuniga, 17, faces charges of tampering with evidence.

Authorities were alerted to the incident on Monday when they received a distress call from the 4200 block of Zinnia Avenue. Upon arrival, they encountered Gonzalez and two juveniles who claimed that their friend had sustained a gunshot wound.

According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by ValleyCentral, the group revealed that an individual had absconded from the scene with the firearm used in the shooting.

Subsequently, a detective interviewed Gonzalez at the police station, where he narrated the events that transpired. Gonzalez recounted being at his friend’s residence with his friend’s brother and the latter’s 15-year-old cousin, engaging in a session of video games.

Gonzalez recalled a moment when Zuniga arrived in a truck and beckoned him outside. While in the vehicle, Zuniga reportedly displayed a black Glock pistol tucked into his waistband, as detailed in the document.

As per Gonzalez’s statement to the authorities, Zuniga instructed him to take possession of the gun due to its uncomfortable fit around his waist. Subsequently, Gonzalez complied and stashed the weapon in the right pocket of his shorts.

“[Gonzalez] stated as he walked into his juvenile friend’s bedroom, he jokingly pointed the handgun towards his friends, and then heard a loud noise,” the affidavit mentioned.

Upon realising that his friend’s 15-year-old cousin had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, Gonzalez professed ignorance regarding the loaded status of the firearm.

Following the incident, Gonzalez dialled emergency services and confronted Zuniga about the loaded gun, culminating in a physical altercation where Gonzalez purportedly struck Zuniga in the face. Zuniga promptly vacated the premises in the truck, carrying the firearm. He was subsequently apprehended by DPS and Hidalgo County deputies at the 5600 block of Petal Street in Edinburg.

During Zuniga’s interrogation, he initially claimed that the 15-year-old boy had accidentally shot himself. However, he later altered his account, attributing the incident to the victim’s cousin playing with the weapon, resulting in an inadvertent discharge that caused injury.

Zuniga further disclosed that he had been instructed to conceal the firearm, leading him to bury it at the rear corner of an abandoned property on Petal Street. Detectives successfully located the buried weapon, identified as a black Glock 45.

Gonzalez was subsequently incarcerated at the Hidalgo County Jail on Tuesday, with his bond set at £30,000. Conversely, Zuniga’s bond was fixed at £5,000. Both individuals have since been released from custody.
