Accident – Death – Obituary News : VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department (VPD) apprehended a 19-year-old Valdosta resident, Allen Maurice Waters, on firearm possession charges. Waters, an African American male, was found with a firearm concealed in the front of his clothing on June 24, 2024, at approximately 2:15 pm. Detectives on duty at the Ora Lee West Apartments spotted Waters with the weapon and attempted to engage him in conversation. However, Waters fled on foot, prompting a pursuit by the detectives.

After tracking Waters to the 700 block of East Jane Street, detectives managed to apprehend him as he was holding the firearm. Despite initial resistance, Waters was eventually taken into custody. During a search of the area where the firearm was dropped, a K9 unit discovered a bag of marijuana. Additionally, Waters was found to have four active felony arrest warrants unrelated to the current case.

Following his arrest, Waters was transported to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana (misdemeanor), tampering with evidence (misdemeanor), obstruction of an officer (misdemeanor), and the four active felony arrest warrants. Chief Leslie Manahan commended the detectives for their proactive efforts, emphasizing the importance of removing firearms from convicted felons and apprehending individuals with outstanding warrants.
