A heartbreaking incident occurred on the Millennium Express train as a 60-year-old passenger from Kerala tragically lost his life. The victim, identified as Ali Khan TK, was on a journey from Thrissur to Agra Cantonment when a horrifying mishap unfolded.
Ali Khan TK was occupying the lower berth of the sleeper coach when the hook holding the middle berth malfunctioned. The improperly chained middle berth detached during the journey, causing it to fall on him and resulting in a severe neck injury. The impact of the falling berth rendered Ali unconscious, prompting railway staff to take immediate action.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the train made an unscheduled stop at Ramagundam to disembark Ali and rush him to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care. Despite efforts to save him, Ali’s condition continued to deteriorate, prompting his transfer to a private hospital in Warangal and subsequently to another private facility in Begumpet, Hyderabad.
Tragically, Ali succumbed to his injuries on June 24 while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad. Following his untimely death, the Mancherial railway police launched an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
In response to the incident, the Ministry of Railways issued a statement clarifying that the seat in question was not damaged and had undergone inspection at Nizamuddin station, where it was deemed to be in good condition. The spokesperson emphasised that the berth fell due to the improper placement of the chain, highlighting the importance of ensuring the secure attachment of all fixtures for passenger safety.
This unfortunate incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and conducting thorough checks to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Ali Khan TK during this difficult time.
