Accident – Death – Obituary News : BC Highway Patrol continue investigation following a serious school bus collision near Lac la Hache
BC Highway Patrol is currently conducting a thorough investigation into a tragic school bus collision that occurred on June 21, 2024, near Lac la Hache. The incident, which took place on Highway 97, has resulted in multiple injuries and a fatality.
According to a recent media release from the RCMP, the school bus was en route to a class trip and was travelling southbound on Highway 97 from Likely Highway. Tragically, the bus veered off the road and went down a 50-foot embankment near Butler Road and Highway 97. Additionally, a pedestrian on Highway 97, a 67-year-old man from the Cariboo region, was fatally injured by an oncoming vehicle shortly after the bus collision.
In light of these events, BC Highway Patrol is urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Highway 97 between 150 Mile House and Butler Road on the fateful day between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to review their dashcam footage and home or business surveillance systems for any relevant information. Sergeant Jason Nash, NCO i/c BCHP Williams Lake, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the pedestrian who lost his life in the tragic incident. He also extended gratitude to those who stopped to assist the pedestrian and the individuals aboard the school bus. As the investigation progresses, efforts will be made to return personal belongings found on the bus to their rightful owners in the coming weeks.
