Accident – Death – Obituary News : A Lancaster man is facing charges after allegedly luring two children into a city park bathroom stall on Saturday night.
Richard Gerth, 40, has been charged with two counts of luring a child into a structure. The incident took place at Long’s Park in the 1400 block of Harrisburg Pike. According to charging documents, Lancaster city police responded to a report of a sexual offense involving children just after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The two boys, aged 7 and 5, were with their respective parents at the park when they entered a bathroom by themselves. The 7-year-old later informed his parent that a man in the bathroom had grabbed him and attempted to lure him into a stall. Simultaneously, the other parent took the 5-year-old back into the bathroom, where a man in a stall called out to them, inviting them to use the open stall.
Upon confrontation by the parent, Gerth left the scene in a silver Honda CRV. Police later stopped the vehicle and identified Gerth as the driver. He is currently being held at Lancaster County Prison after failing to post $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2, and as of Tuesday, no attorney was listed in court records.
