A heartbroken mother is sharing her story after her six-year-old son tragically drowned on the first day of summer camp in Burlington County. The young boy, identified as Michael Stewart, lost his life during the afternoon swim session for campers in the first and second grade.

According to camp officials, a lifeguard discovered Michael unresponsive in a shallow pool and quickly pulled him out of the water to administer CPR. Despite their efforts, Michael passed away at a nearby hospital.

Michael was a bright young student at Lumberton School District, where he was set to enter first grade. The district released a statement expressing their deepest sympathies to the grieving family.

In a show of support, the community is rallying around the Stewart family by organizing a lemonade stand fundraiser at the Old Fire House on Main Street this Saturday. The district is also urging those in need of mental health assistance to contact Care Solace at 888-515-0595, a service that connects individuals with verified providers in the community.
