June 25—ROCHESTER — A 32-year-old woman from North Liberty, Iowa, Margot G. Lewis, has been charged with a felony after the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office discovered a body in the backseat of a vehicle she was driving that crashed on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Liara Tsai, a 35-year-old woman from Minneapolis.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Interstate 90 and Minnesota Highway 42, near Eyota, where a single-vehicle crash took place on June 22. Upon arrival, the deputy found Lewis’s vehicle, a Chevrolet Sonic, in the center median. It was determined that the vehicle was speeding when it hit the median.
Upon further inspection, the deputy noticed a human body in the backseat of the vehicle, wrapped in a bed sheet, blanket, futon-style mattress, and a tarp. The body, identified as Liara Tsai, was cold to the touch with a large wound on the right side of the neck, indicating that the death was not a result of the crash.
The Minneapolis Police Department has revealed that the body found in Lewis’s vehicle may be linked to a “scene indicating violence” at a residence in Minneapolis. They are collaborating with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate this “suspicious death.”
Following the discovery, Margot G. Lewis made her first appearance in Olmsted County District Court on Tuesday to face one count of interference with a dead body.
