Watsonville teen arrested after vehicle chase involving illegal fireworks and narcotics Monterey Herald.

Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended 19-year-old John Aguirre from Watsonville on charges of possessing illegal fireworks and marijuana intended for sale and distribution.
The incident unfolded when a deputy was patrolling north on Highway 1 near Reservation Road in Marina and noticed a vehicle speeding northbound. Upon attempting to pull over the vehicle, the driver failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that was eventually called off due to safety concerns.
Later that evening, the same vehicle was spotted on Cooper Road, prompting a second stop attempt. The driver, identified as Aguirre, attempted to flee again but eventually halted near Cooper Road and Highway 183. A passenger in the car was released.
A search of the vehicle revealed a substantial quantity of illegal fireworks in Aguirre’s possession, along with over two pounds of marijuana and related packaging and distribution materials.
As a result, Aguirre was taken into custody and booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of felony vehicle evasion, possession of hazardous fireworks, and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
