WENDELL, N.C. (WNCN) — A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Wendell when a two-year-old boy, identified as the son of a Wake County deputy, tragically passed away after a near-drowning in a pool. The incident occurred at a residence on Gail Ridge Lane, prompting a response from the sheriff’s office on Tuesday.

Despite the efforts of EMS and firefighters who administered life-saving measures, the child succumbed to his injuries. The father of the toddler, Deputy Jose Perez-Apodaca, received support from the sheriff’s office during this devastating time.
