MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man who led Mobile Police on a chase before jumping into a creek was arrested after he reported that his vehicle had been stolen, according to the department.

Police Chase and Arrest

According to an MPD news release, officers attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of Duval Street and Murray Hill Court, but the driver refused to stop. Officers witnessed drugs being thrown from the vehicle as the driver evaded police until the chase ended on Gimon Circle.

The driver then exited the vehicle and swam across Eslava Creek in an attempt to escape from the police. However, later that same night, the suspect, identified as 25-year-old David Joseph Nettles, called the police to report his vehicle stolen.

Arrest and Charges

Upon further investigation, officers were able to confirm Nettles’ identity and subsequently arrested him. Nettles is now facing charges of attempt to elude, possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and false reporting to a law enforcement officer.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of attempting to evade law enforcement and the legal consequences that may follow.
