MOORESVILLE, N.C. (WBTV) – A pedestrian tragically lost their life after being struck by an 18-wheeler in Iredell County on Wednesday morning, as reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
The victim has been identified as 63-year-old Calvin Jay May from Greenville. The incident occurred on Interstate 77 near Highway 150.
According to troopers, the fatal collision took place when a tractor-trailer travelling south on the freeway collided with May, who was walking in the roadway.
Authorities mentioned that May was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident, and the road was not well-lit, possibly contributing to the tragic outcome.
Following an investigation, it was determined that neither impairment nor speed were factors in the collision. As a result, no charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
