Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 25-year-old man, Badal Kumar Pathak, was recently apprehended by the Delhi Police for attempting to extort money from jewelry shops in the Mayur Vihar area. Pathak, influenced by videos showcasing criminal activities on YouTube, adopted a similar modus operandi to intimidate and extort money from local business owners.

Using an old keypad phone and a borrowed SIM card, Pathak made threatening phone calls to several jewelry shop owners, demanding large sums of money as ransom. One such call was received by the Manager of Alukka Gold Palace in Mayur Pankaj Plaza on June 23, prompting the initiation of a police investigation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Apurva Gupta revealed that a team was formed to tackle the extortion case, and after conducting technical surveillance, Pathak was apprehended in Smriti Van, Mayur Vihar Phase-3. He was found in possession of the mobile phone used in the commission of the crime.

During interrogation, Pathak admitted to being influenced by online content glorifying criminal gang activities, which led him to devise a plan to extort money from jewelry shops in the area. He confessed to making threatening calls to multiple shop owners, instilling fear and demanding payments to spare their lives.

The police are currently in the process of tracing and questioning the affected jewelry shop owners, some of whom have yet to cooperate with the investigation. While Pathak’s alleged connection to an actual criminal gang is still under scrutiny, no concrete evidence linking him to such an organization has been found thus far.

Pathak has been charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for extortion and is awaiting further legal proceedings. The Delhi Police have issued a warning to individuals attempting to imitate criminal behaviour for personal gain, emphasizing that such actions will not go unpunished.
