Accident – Death – Obituary News : Arlington authorities are currently on the lookout for a driver who tragically struck and killed a 21-year-old woman, Areauna Laws from DeSoto, as she stood on the shoulder of an interstate following car troubles. The incident occurred early Sunday morning on the westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Matlock Road. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Laws lying in the roadway.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted a disturbing account of a pickup truck swerving recklessly on I-20 leading up to the collision. According to witness statements, the pickup veered onto the shoulder where Laws was standing. Authorities suspect alcohol may have played a role in the fatal crash.
It is believed that Laws had pulled over due to car issues and was outside her vehicle when the pickup truck struck her and her car before fleeing the scene. Subsequently, the abandoned pickup truck was located in a nearby parking lot by law enforcement.
As of Tuesday, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, as confirmed by an Arlington police department spokesperson. KDFW-TV (Channel 4) reported that Laws, a Marine reservist en route to drills, had experienced a flat tire prior to the collision. Her father described her as “genuinely good-hearted and good-natured.”
