VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) – A man previously convicted of a felony has now been apprehended on various charges following a pursuit on foot with Valdosta police officers.
During the afternoon of Monday, June 24, around 2:15 p.m., detectives patrolling the vicinity of Ora Lee West Apartments spotted an individual, later identified as Allen Maurice Waters, 19, carrying a firearm concealed in the front of his attire, as per an official statement.
Upon attempting to engage with Waters, he chose to flee from the scene. Subsequently, he was sighted walking behind the 700 block of East Jane Street, still clutching the weapon. Waters relinquished the firearm after law enforcement issued verbal instructions and attempted to evade capture once more.
Following a brief pursuit, officers managed to apprehend him. Despite his resistance and efforts to abscond, Waters was eventually restrained and transported to a holding facility.
In addition to the four felony warrants pending against him, a police K9 unit discovered a bag of cannabis during a search for the discarded firearm.
Waters was subsequently transported to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with:
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
- Possession of marijuana
- Tampering with evidence
- Obstruction of an officer
- 4 active felony arrest warrants
Valdosta Police Chief Leslie Manahan commended the proactive efforts of the detectives involved, stating, “This great proactive work by our detectives resulted in the seizure of a firearm from a convicted felon and the arrest of a person who had several active felony warrants.”
