The tragic incident that occurred on June 21st, involving a school bus crash near Williams Lake, has left the community in mourning. The person who lost his life while trying to help after the accident has been identified as a 67-year-old man from the Cariboo region. The B.C. Highway Patrol has extended their condolences to his family and friends.
The accident took place when a school bus carrying 31 students from 100 Mile Elementary and Horse Lake Elementary, along with four adults, veered off the road and down a 50-foot embankment on Highway 97 near Butler Road outside Lac la Hache. Many of the occupants sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities, including BCHP, 100 Mile House RCMP, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement, School District 27, and Transport Canada, are currently investigating the cause of the accident. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have relevant information to come forward. Dashcam footage or surveillance footage from homes or businesses along Highway 97 between 150 Mile House and Butler Road on the day of the incident is particularly valuable.
Sgt. Jason Nash of BCHP Williams Lake stated that it may take several months to determine the exact cause of the crash. He also expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of all those affected by the tragedy.

Efforts are being made to return personal items belonging to the passengers of the school bus in the coming weeks.
