On Friday afternoon, June 21, 2024, at around 4:40 PM, officers from the Pittsburg Police Department responded to a disturbing report at Schlanger Park. The park, located in the 700 block of E. 6th Street in Pittsburg, was the scene of a male suspect engaging in lewd and inappropriate behaviour in full view of others at the splash pad.
Upon their arrival, an officer spotted the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Walter Lalimo from Pittsburg, near the intersection of 7th Street and Short Street. Upon seeing the officer, Lalimo attempted to flee southbound into the park. A chase ensued through Schlanger Park, ending in the south parking lot area along E. 4th Street where Lalimo was apprehended by another officer. Despite sustaining minor injuries during the apprehension, Lalimo was taken into custody without further incident.
Lalimo was arrested on charges of felony lewd and lascivious behaviour in the presence of a person under the age of 16, as well as interference with law enforcement. He was transported to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office jail for booking and is currently being held in lieu of a $7,500 bond.
It is important to note that Lalimo is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
