CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released bodycam footage related to a shooting incident that occurred in February, where an officer shot and injured an armed man during a response to suspected drug activity. The release of the video follows a court petition.
The incident took place on February 8 in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road. The area was under surveillance by the department’s Real Time Crime Center as part of its crime reduction efforts.
According to CMPD, the Real Time Crime Center observed a man on video surveillance handling a firearm concealed in his waistband. The man, identified as Timothy Deangelo Moore, 33, was seen manipulating the weapon before hiding it again. Subsequently, officers were dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, responding officers witnessed what appeared to be a drug transaction between Moore and another individual in the parking lot. When officers approached Moore, he fled. During the pursuit, Moore pulled out his firearm and turned towards a CMPD officer, prompting the officer to perceive a lethal threat and fire a single shot at Moore, causing him to fall to the ground.
Moore received medical attention at the scene, and a firearm was recovered. Following treatment for minor injuries, Moore was taken into custody. He faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.
Moore has since been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail, with a scheduling conference set for July 1, 2024, in his criminal case. The North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys reviewed the case and determined that the officer’s actions were justified.
