KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – On June 20, a tragic incident unfolded on Bella Terra Road in Knoxville as police officers were forced to confront a woman wielding a knife. The Knoxville Police Department reported that the shooting occurred at approximately 7 a.m. The woman, identified as 49-year-old Shilo M. Rice, was reportedly in a state of distress and posed a threat to herself and others.
The latest information from the Knoxville Police Department has shed light on the identities of the officers involved in the shooting. Officers Arim Ismail, Riley Lackey, and Tisha Knickerbocker were the individuals on the frontline during this challenging situation. Ismail, who has been serving as a KPD officer since February 2023, is currently stationed in the Field Operations West District. Lackey joined the force in September 2020 and also operates in the Field Operations West District. Knickerbocker, the newest addition to the team, was sworn in as an officer in March 2024 and is undergoing training in the Field Training Officer program.
Following standard protocol, all three officers have been placed on routine administrative leave as investigations into the incident are ongoing. KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland emphasized the importance of allowing the necessary procedures to take place in order to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
