SOMERVILLE, NJ (Somerset County) – A 59-year-old Manville Borough man, Raul Elias, has been handed a four-year prison sentence for sexually touching an 8-year-old girl, as reported by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Elias was sentenced on June 14 by Somerset County Superior Court Judge Peter J. Tober, who imposed a four-year term in New Jersey State Prison for endangering the welfare of a child. In addition to his prison sentence, Elias is required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and be subject to Parole Supervision for Life.

During his sentencing, Judge Tober noted that Elias showed little remorse for his actions, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The case came to light on March 18, 2022, when the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office received a report from a minor alleging that she had been sexually assaulted by a man in Manville Borough when she was just 8 years old.

An investigation into the alleged sexual assault was launched by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, in collaboration with investigators from the Manville Police Department. The suspect was identified as Raul Elias, who was subsequently charged with second-degree sexual assault by contact of a child under the age of 13 and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct.

Following a trial that spanned three days, including jury selection and deliberations, Elias was found guilty on March 13 by a Somerset County Jury of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
