INDIANAPOLIS — Robbery detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have arrested a 14-year-old in connection with a reported armed carjacking on the southeast side of Indianapolis. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in the 7700 block of Sebastian Place.

According to a statement on IMPD’s social media, officers responded to a report of an armed carjacking at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The victim reported that two masked individuals had stolen their cell phone, cash, and vehicle at gunpoint.

Later in the day, around 6 p.m., IMPD officers located the stolen vehicle in the 7700 block of Blue Willow Drive. The vehicle was occupied, and the 14-year-old suspect fled in the vehicle. The teenager drove the vehicle for a short distance before abandoning it in a cornfield near E. Raymond Street and fleeing on foot.

After a brief pursuit, officers found the 14-year-old hiding in a garage and took the individual into custody. The teenager was in possession of the victim’s cell phone and cash at the time of arrest.

The 14-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed by IMPD, is facing preliminary charges of reckless driving and robbery. The second suspect involved in the carjacking was not present in the vehicle when it was located.

IMPD Deputy Chief Tanya Terry emphasized the importance of parents and community members being aware of the activities of young people. She stated, “Juveniles engaging in reckless and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated.”
