Fugitive Captured

A fugitive who was convicted by a South Carolina jury of conducting “horrific” abuse of a three-year-old child has been apprehended by deputies from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office following a three-day search.

The fugitive, identified as Nathan Ginter, was found along with a female companion, Riley Pearson, in the Cynthiana Road/Newtown Pike area. The search for the suspects spanned across parts of Scott, Harrison, and Bourbon counties, with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service and the Georgetown Police Department, participating in the operation.

According to Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton, Ginter and Pearson were taken into custody without incident early Saturday morning after a tip-off from a local resident. The suspects had provided false information about their identities, but through investigation, they were positively identified as the wanted fugitives from South Carolina.

Ginter, a former law enforcement officer as per South Carolina media sources, was found in possession of two handguns, two rifles, $60,500 in cash, and 16 fake identification cards at the time of his capture. He will now face extradition to South Carolina to appear before a judge in Richland County for sentencing on four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.

The crimes committed by Ginter against the three-year-old child, which included waterboarding and the use of a taser, were witnessed by the victim’s 9-year-old sister who testified during the trial. The abuse was recorded and narrated by Ginter on his cellphone, leading to his conviction in absentia.

Columbia S.C. Police Chief Skip Holbrook described the abuse as “horrific,” and Ginter was first arrested in 2022 for these heinous acts. In addition to the child abuse convictions, Ginter also faces charges in Kentucky for being a felon in possession of a firearm and 16 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Riley Pearson, the female companion of Ginter, is also in custody and is expected to face charges, although details of these charges have not been released at this time.
