Over the weekend, a series of tragic events unfolded in Chicago, resulting in eight fatalities and 18 injuries from shootings across the city. The violence began on Friday evening and escalated until early Monday morning, leaving a community in mourning.

Weekend Incidents

The weekend’s violence included a total of 14 shootings on Sunday alone, with one incident occurring in the Little Village neighbourhood. A 19-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Stroger Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Two other individuals, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, were also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.

Another shooting took place on South Kedzie Avenue, where a 23-year-old man reported exchanging gunfire with unknown assailants. This incident left a 31-year-old man injured and seeking medical attention at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Tragically, 16-year-old Marvel White lost his life after being shot in the chest and legs during an argument on South Racine Avenue. Despite efforts to save him, he passed away at Comer Children’s Hospital.

Comparison to Previous Weekends

The total number of shootings over the weekend was lower than the previous weekend, which saw a staggering 72 individuals shot and eight fatalities. However, the impact of these recent incidents is still deeply felt within the community.

Friday’s Fatalities

On Friday evening, a tragic incident unfolded on North Rockwell Street involving three 16-year-old boys. Benicio Gomez lost his life after being shot in the back, while another boy suffered serious injuries to the shoulder. The third boy sustained a gunshot wound to the knee but was in good condition following treatment.

Saturday’s Shootings

Saturday saw a series of fatal shootings across different locations in Chicago. A 34-year-old man and a 44-year-old man were pronounced dead after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds. Additionally, a 49-year-old man, Juan Rodriguez, lost his life following a shooting on West 25th Street.

Later that evening, a 29-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting on West 73rd Street, with no arrests made in connection to the incident.

Sunday’s Tragedy

Sunday morning began with the discovery of two men found dead inside a Jeep Cherokee on South Halsted Street. Both victims had suffered fatal gunshot wounds, with one of them identified as 20-year-old Ahmarion Tubbs.

Monday’s Incident

The violence continued into Monday when a 45-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7600 block of North Paulina Street. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital.
