The 28 dogs, all small breeds primarily under the age of 5, were discovered living in deplorable conditions in stackable cages, layered on top of each other. The animals were found to be suffering from severe matting, infections, and covered in their own waste, according to statements made by Humane Society Executive Director Lori Carlson.
“This was an appalling situation for these poor animals,” Carlson expressed. “The dogs were living in filth, with some of the worst matting we have ever seen. One of the dogs was so severely matted that it appeared to have extra legs due to the excessive fur hanging off it.”
Upon their rescue, the dogs are currently undergoing thorough medical evaluations and treatment, including vaccinations and necessary medications provided by veterinarians. In some cases, the dogs may require spaying or neutering, if their health permits. Due to the extent of their matting, most of the dogs will need to be completely shaved, and one may even require amputation due to a severe infection.
The veterinary examinations are being meticulously conducted to document the neglect and determine the appropriate medical interventions for each dog. Once the dogs are deemed healthy, they will be made available for adoption. In the meantime, all 28 dogs are being housed at the Humane Society in specially designated rooms.
