Accident – Death – Obituary News :

June 25—ROCHESTER — A body discovered in the backseat of a vehicle that crashed on Saturday along Interstate 90 near Eyota may be connected to a “scene indicating violence” at a residence in Minneapolis, as reported by the Minneapolis Police Department.

The Minneapolis Police Department is currently assisting the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in investigating a suspicious death that was uncovered by Olmsted County deputies on June 22.

The incident unfolded when the sheriff’s office responded to the crash site around 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, near the Eyota exit. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 32-year-old Margot Lewis, was found outside the car and receiving aid from a passerby. Upon further inspection of the vehicle, deputies came across the body of a 35-year-old woman in the back seat. The deceased woman was later identified as Liara Tsai, a resident of Minneapolis.

According to the sheriff’s office, the condition of Tsai’s body raised suspicions, and it was immediately clear that her death was not a result of the crash. Consequently, Lewis was taken into custody for interference with a dead body.

Following the discovery, the BCA requested a welfare check at Tsai’s address in Minneapolis, which prompted the involvement of BCA, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, and Minneapolis Police investigators. A search warrant was executed at the residence later that evening, revealing a scene indicating potential violence inside the property.

The MPD release stated that forensic specialists have processed the scene, and the agency is collaborating with the BCA to delve into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Individuals with any pertinent information are urged to contact CrimeStoppers on 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online at www.CrimeStoppersMN.org.

As the investigation continues, Lewis is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday in relation to this case.
