The Minot Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 10 block of 1st Avenue SE in downtown Minot at around 3 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the affidavit filed on Monday, witnesses at the scene identified the suspect as Laquint Sarvis, who was seen leaving the area in the back of a black pickup truck.

Law enforcement officers located a truck matching the description provided by witnesses and found Sarvis, 23, in the backseat of the vehicle along with an “AK-47 style pistol” partially concealed under the seat.

Witnesses stated that Sarvis had been involved in altercations with individuals in the vicinity before leaving the scene and returning shortly after with the firearm in hand, as per the affidavit.

According to witness accounts, Sarvis threatened people in the area and aimed the gun at a man, leading to a shot being fired. Another unidentified individual then reportedly fired at Sarvis, who fled back to his vehicle.
