Escambia County, Fla. (WALA) – The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has reported that one suspect is in custody and another suspect is deceased after a dramatic high-speed chase ended with the suspects jumping off a bridge in an attempt to evade authorities.
The incident began when three suspects in a stolen vehicle were travelling down Erress Boulevard and opened fire on a residential home, unleashing approximately 40 rounds. Tragically, a 70-year-old woman was hit in the neck by one of the bullets and is currently in critical condition fighting for her life.
Upon receiving reports of the shooting, deputies quickly responded to the scene and initiated a pursuit of the suspects. The chase culminated in a daring manoeuvre on the Highway 90 bridge, where a deputy successfully executed a pit manoeuvre to stop the fleeing vehicle.
As the vehicle came to a halt, the three suspects abandoned the car and made a desperate attempt to escape by jumping off the bridge. Law enforcement officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while a second suspect tragically did not survive the fall.
A canine unit was deployed to track down the third suspect who also jumped off the bridge. While the dog sustained minor injuries during the pursuit, the suspect remains at large as authorities continue their search efforts.
The suspect who was successfully captured has been identified as Jaquaris Ethridge, aged 19. Ethridge now faces multiple charges including murder, attempted murder, eluding law enforcement, and illegal possession of a firearm.
