Accident – Death – Obituary News :

After an extensive 16-month search, the body of a woman who was swept away in flooding in Aberdeenshire has been positively identified as Hazel Nairn. The 71-year-old woman was last seen near the River Don, close to Monymusk, in November 2022 while walking her dog.

Police Scotland confirmed that on 7 May, human remains were recovered from the River Don near Kemnay, and after formal identification, it was determined to be that of Hazel Nairn. Authorities stated that her death is not considered suspicious, and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Specialist Search Efforts

The search for Mrs. Nairn involved a specialised underwater team, who faced challenges due to high water levels that made it difficult to access the identified priority search areas. Despite the obstacles, search teams persisted in their efforts to locate the missing woman.

Tragically, the body of Mrs. Nairn’s loyal companion, her dog, was found in the days following her disappearance, adding to the heartbreak of the situation.

The community has been deeply affected by the loss of Hazel Nairn, and her family and loved ones are grieving her passing. The closure provided by the recovery of her remains brings a sense of finality to the search efforts that have spanned over a year.
