The body of Hazel Nairn, a 71-year-old woman who went missing during severe flooding in Aberdeenshire in 2022, has been formally identified after being recovered from the River Don.

Hazel Nairn was swept away while out with her dog near Monymusk in November 2022. Despite extensive searches, only the body of her pet was found near the river.

Police announced on May 7, 2024, that human remains had been discovered in the River Don near Kemnay, Inverurie, and have since confirmed the identity of the remains as Hazel Nairn. Her family has been notified of the tragic discovery.

The authorities have stated that the death is not considered suspicious, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal for further investigation.
