Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded at Glacier National Park in Montana as a 26-year-old woman from Western Pennsylvania lost her life after slipping and falling into the water near St. Mary Falls. The victim, identified as Gillian Tones from North Apollo, met with this unfortunate accident on a Sunday evening.
According to officials from the National Park Service, the incident occurred when Tones slipped on wet and slick rocks and fell into Virginia Creek, situated between St. Mary and Virginia Falls. Witnesses clarified that Tones did not intentionally enter the water above St. Mary Falls. Instead, she was swiftly carried away by the cold, fast-moving water, passing through a series of smaller waterfalls before becoming trapped underwater by a log. It took the heroic efforts of fellow park visitors to rescue her from the river.
Despite the prompt response from bystanders, park rangers, ambulance personnel, and helicopter medics who attempted resuscitation, Tones was pronounced dead around 7 p.m. The circumstances surrounding her death are currently under investigation, with an autopsy planned to determine the exact cause.
