Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Callie Weems was relishing her newfound role as a mother in the months leading up to the horrific incident that took her life at a grocery store in Arkansas. The 23-year-old nurse, who had recently welcomed her daughter Ivy into the world, was known for her vibrant personality and love for her baby girl.

According to authorities, Weems was among the four individuals who tragically lost their lives in the shooting at the Mad Butcher store in Fordyce, Arkansas. The incident, which also left 11 others injured, including the alleged gunman, sent shockwaves through the community.

Just hours before the shooting took place, Weems had been exchanging messages with her mother, Helen Browning, expressing joy at the simple pleasures of motherhood. Browning fondly recalls the last conversation she had with her daughter, where Weems shared her delight at Ivy letting her sleep in until 9 a.m. that morning.

Selfless Act of Bravery

Tragically, Weems’ life was cut short as she bravely stepped in to help another gunshot victim during the chaos that unfolded at the grocery store. Arkansas State Police Director Mike Hagar praised Weems for her selfless act, stating that she had stopped to render aid in one of the most courageous acts he had ever witnessed.

The alleged gunman, 44-year-old Travis Eugene Posey, unleashed a hail of bullets at the store, causing panic and devastation among the shoppers and employees. Posey, who carried a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and a bandolier with extra shotgun rounds, indiscriminately fired at innocent bystanders before engaging in a shootout with law enforcement officers.

Community in Mourning

The tight-knit community of Fordyce, with a population of approximately 3,200 people, was left reeling in the aftermath of the shooting. City council member Roderick Rogers described the scene at the grocery store as resembling a war zone, with residents left feeling frightened and unsafe.

The victims of the shooting, including Roy Sturgis, Shirley Taylor, and Ellen Shrum, were remembered fondly by their loved ones. Sturgis, a logger and devoted father, was part of Browning’s extended family, while Taylor was described as the “family rock” by her daughter.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of the tragic event, Browning is determined to raise Ivy in the memory of her late mother. She hopes to instill in her daughter the knowledge that she was the light of Weems’ life and that her mother loved her dearly.

Justice and Healing

Travis Eugene Posey, currently in custody at the Ouachita County Detention Center, will face charges of four counts of capital murder for his role in the shooting. While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, the community is left to mourn the loss of innocent lives and support those who are still recovering from their injuries.

As Fordyce comes to terms with the tragedy that has befallen their town, the residents seek solace in the hope for justice and healing in the wake of the devastating incident.
