TEMECULA, CA — The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the young man tragically killed in a fatal crash on Interstate 15 last month. Brian Ray Gonzales, aged 19, lost his life in a two-vehicle collision that occurred at 6:35 a.m. on May 21 on northbound I-15, just south of Deer Springs Road in unincorporated Escondido. Gonzales, who would have celebrated his 20th birthday on July 6, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the incident.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash involved a Ford F-150 being driven by a 24-year-old motorist from Descanso. The two vehicles collided for reasons that are currently under investigation. Following the impact, the Ford F-150 spun out and came to a stop in the center divider, while the Chevrolet Silverado overturned multiple times before coming to rest upright on the right shoulder of the highway.
Tragically, Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. His 19-year-old female passenger sustained major non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford F-150 escaped the incident unharmed, according to the CHP. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be contributing factors in the collision.
