HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Authorities in Holyoke have apprehended a local resident in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred on High Street earlier this month.
According to a spokesperson for the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, the suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Brian Gonzalez of Holyoke. Gonzalez is facing charges in relation to the murder of 31-year-old David Rivera from Springfield.
The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 1, at around 2:00 a.m. Holyoke police responded to reports of a shooting in the 400 block of High Street following an altercation. Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male victim with gunshot wounds who was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim is currently in recovery.
Later that same day, authorities located a second victim, identified as David Rivera, inside a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road near 300 High Street. Rivera had sustained a gunshot wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following an extensive investigation, Brian Gonzalez was identified as the prime suspect in the shooting incident. He was subsequently arraigned at Holyoke District Court on Monday. Gonzalez is being held in custody without the option of bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a hearing on July 18.
