Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The ongoing case of a 12-year-old homicide suspect in Milwaukee, who is charged as an adult for the shooting death of his mother in 2022, continues to face delays in moving to the juvenile justice system.

During a recent hearing, Milwaukee County Judge Jane Carroll addressed the delay, citing the unavailability of a necessary witness. The defense argues that the young suspect, who allegedly killed his mother over a virtual reality headset, suffers from mental health issues and requires treatment that the adult system may not adequately provide.

Alisha Kraus, a Wisconsin Department of Corrections employee, testified about the challenges of accommodating individuals in need of cognitive behavioral programming in the adult system. The prosecution countered by highlighting the services available at Lincoln Hills, a secure detention center for young males, where the suspect would receive treatment until at least his 18th birthday.

As the case enters its third year, the defense is still working on data analysis to support its arguments, while the Attorney General must be notified of a constitutional challenge to the law governing the reverse waiver process. The next court date is set for October 8.

Despite the delays, both sides are committed to ensuring that the case is handled appropriately and that the young suspect receives the necessary support and services.
