Accident – Death – Obituary News :

NEW DELHI: A 13-year-old boy was recently apprehended by authorities for sending a hoax bomb threat email to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi on June 17. The false claim stated that there was a bomb on a Delhi-Dubai flight, causing panic and disruption at the airport. The boy later admitted that he was inspired by a similar incident involving another child that he had seen on social media. He mentioned that he sent the email purely for amusement.

The incident unfolded when the airport authorities received a complaint from DIAL (Security & Vigilance) regarding the bomb threat email targeting a flight bound for Dubai. This led to the immediate implementation of security protocols and the declaration of a full emergency at the airport.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Rangnani emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “The guidelines and protocols outlined in the SOP were strictly followed to ensure the safety and security of all passengers at the airport. Subsequent investigations confirmed that the threat email was indeed a hoax.”

A dedicated investigative team, led by SHO (IGI) Vijender Rana, was assigned to delve into the case. Through technical surveillance, the origin of the email was traced back to Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, and the perpetrator was identified as a 13-year-old boy studying in Class IX. The boy used a mobile phone provided by his parents for educational purposes to send the email and promptly deleted the address in an attempt to remain anonymous.

“The boy mentioned that he engaged in this activity for fun and excitement but refrained from informing his parents out of fear,” the officer disclosed. The police seized the mobile phone linked to the hoax threat email and handed the boy over to his parents.

Remarkably, this incident marks the second occasion in June where a 13-year-old boy has been apprehended for sending a hoax bomb threat email to IGI Airport. In a previous incident on June 4, another boy had sent a similar threat email claiming a bomb on a flight headed to Toronto, stating that he did so ‘just for fun’ to test the authorities’ ability to track him down.
