Tragedy struck Little Rock, Ark. as a fourth victim died following a shooting at a grocery store in Arkansas. The latest victim passed away on Saturday evening, according to a statement from Arkansas state police.

Authorities reported that a total of 15 people were shot on Friday, including 12 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect himself. The shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, a small city located 65 miles south of Little Rock with a population of about 3,200 people.

Video footage shared on social media captured the chaotic scene, with at least one person seen lying in the parking lot and the sound of multiple gunshots ringing out. Reporters on the scene documented bullet holes in the store’s windows and spent shell casings scattered throughout the parking lot. Local and state law enforcement agencies swiftly responded, with a medical helicopter landing nearby to assist the wounded.

The victims were identified as Shirley Taylor, 62; Callie Weems, 23; Roy Sturgis, 50; and Ellen Shrum, 81—all civilians, as confirmed by authorities. The injured individuals, ranging in age from 20 to 65, included a woman in critical condition. Five of the wounded remained hospitalized, with Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, already released from the hospital, and Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, recovering from minor injuries.

The suspect, identified as Travis Eugene Posey, 44, from New Edinburg, will face four counts of capital murder. Police mentioned that Mr. Posey sustained non-life-threatening injuries during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement and was subsequently taken into custody. He is currently held at the Ouachita County Detention Center.

Authorities stated that Mr. Posey’s motive for the shooting remains unclear, as he appeared to have no personal connection to any of the victims. A spokesperson for the state police mentioned that Mr. Posey likely has legal representation, although the specific attorney’s name was not disclosed.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding what led to the violence at the grocery store in Fordyce. Investigations continue as authorities work to piece together the details of the shooting and provide support to the victims and their families.
