CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released bodycam footage relating to a shooting incident that occurred in February, following a court petition. The video, which is graphic in nature, shows an officer shooting and injuring an armed man while responding to suspected drug activity.
The incident took place on Thursday morning, Feb. 8, in the 2100 block of Beatties Ford Road. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated that the area was under surveillance by the department’s Real Time Crime Center as part of its crime reduction efforts.
According to CMPD, the Real Time Crime Center observed a man on video surveillance taking out a firearm from his waistband, manipulating the weapon, and then hiding it again. Responding officers were alerted to the scene, where they witnessed what appeared to be a drug transaction between the armed man, identified as 33-year-old Timothy Deangelo Moore, and another individual in the parking lot.
When officers approached Moore, he attempted to flee. During the pursuit, Moore pulled out his firearm and turned towards a CMPD officer. The officer, perceiving an imminent and lethal threat, fired a single shot at Moore, causing him to fall to the ground.
Moore received medical attention at the scene, and a firearm was recovered. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and later arrested. Moore faces charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting a public officer, and carrying a concealed weapon.
After being released from the hospital, Moore was placed in Mecklenburg County Jail. A scheduling conference for his criminal case has been set for July 1, 2024.
The North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys reviewed the case and determined that the officer’s actions were justified. The released footage can be viewed on CMPD’s YouTube channel.
