Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a recent legal ruling that highlights consumer rights and service standards, the First Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has imposed fines totalling £7,000 on a restaurant situated near a National Highway in Bengaluru Urban district. The penalties were levied on the Udupi Garden restaurant for failing to provide hot and hygienic food to a female customer, as outlined in the commission’s order dated June 19, as reported by The Indian Express.

The case was brought forward by a 56-year-old woman named Tahara, who resides in Koramangala, Bengaluru. Tahara shared her disappointing experience with reporters, recalling the incident that occurred on July 30, 2022, while she was on her way to Hassan for a family outing.

According to Tahara, the food served at Udupi Garden was cold and not fresh. When she requested a replacement meal, the restaurant staff rudely dismissed her. She further stated that her medical condition, high blood pressure, was exacerbated due to the lack of a proper meal, which also prevented her from taking necessary medication at the time.

Commission president B. Narayanappa, who presided over the case, found Udupi Garden restaurant guilty of service delivery deficiencies. He imposed a fine of £5,000 for the lapse in service quality and an additional £2,000 to cover litigation expenses.

This ruling serves as a reminder to restaurants and eateries to uphold high standards of food quality and service to ensure customer satisfaction and well-being. It also underscores the importance of consumer rights and accountability in the hospitality industry..
