A 3-year-old child is fighting for their life in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, after being left unattended in a motel room and subsequently struck by a car.
The Jefferson Hills Police Department received a distressing call on Saturday evening reporting that a child had been involved in a road traffic accident.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that the young child had ventured out of the Econo Lodge and onto the northbound lanes of Route 51, where they were tragically hit by a passing vehicle.
Investigations revealed that the child’s mother, Shawnae Galberth, had left her 3-year-old and a 2-year-old unattended in the motel room. The children managed to escape and wandered onto the busy road, resulting in the harrowing incident.
The injured child was swiftly transported to the hospital in critical condition. The driver involved in the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the ongoing police inquiry.
Subsequently, Shawnae Galberth was arrested on two charges of felony endangering the welfare of children and was taken into custody. She is currently being held at the Allegheny County Jail.
The Jefferson Hills community is in shock following this distressing incident, and authorities are urging parents and caregivers to take extra precautions to ensure the safety of young children in their care.
