The perpetrator of the tragic mass shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, has been revealed to have confessed to struggling with homicidal urges and harboring fantasies of carrying out a school shooting before the devastating incident that claimed the lives of six individuals. Documents obtained from Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital through a search warrant shed light on the inner turmoil of the trans-identifying individual responsible for the horrific act.

In March 2023, 28-year-old Audrey Hale committed a heinous act, fatally shooting three adults and three 9-year-old students at Covenant School, a Christian elementary school affiliated with Covenant Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Church in America.

The shooter, who had attended the school in the past, identified as a man despite being biologically female. Hale met her demise during an encounter with law enforcement officers on the same day she perpetrated the attack.

As reported by The Tennessee Star, documents labeled “Vandy Psych” were obtained by the Metro Nashville Police Department, revealing detailed notes apparently taken by an officer who reviewed the material. These documents were acquired in June 2023 through a search warrant issued for Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, a division of Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

VUMC faced public scrutiny in 2022 for performing sex-change surgeries on minors with gender dysphoria, prompting the medical center to temporarily suspend such procedures.

According to an affidavit submitted by an MNPD detective, medical professionals associated with the hospital had been treating Hale since April 2001 until her demise. The officer who scrutinized the documents analyzed over 75 pages of VUMC records related to Hale, as reported by The Star.

One of the notes from the “Vandy Psych” document dated March 27, 2023, stated, “Thoughts of killing Dad in and struggles with mental health. Recent thoughts of going into a school and shooting a bunch of people.” Additional notes in the document indicated that Hale had “fantasies of being a school shooter” and frequently pondered death, both in suicidal and homicidal contexts.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has not yet responded to The Christian Post’s request for comment.

As per Tennessee State Code 33-3-206, mental health professionals are mandated to take appropriate measures to predict, warn, or safeguard the identified victim from the violent behavior of a patient. It is incumbent upon mental health professionals to provide ongoing care to the patient following such a prediction.

Prior to the Covenant School shooting, mental health professionals who failed to alert law enforcement about a potential threat could face legal repercussions and potential monetary liability. However, the statute of limitations for such cases was typically limited to one year.

Earlier this year, Tennessee introduced House Bill 1625, which mandates mental health professionals to inform local law enforcement if a patient expresses intent to cause harm to a group of individuals.

Star News Digital Media, Inc., the parent company of The Star, and editor-in-chief Michael Patrick Leahy are plaintiffs in a lawsuit seeking the full release of the writings left behind by Hale. Earlier this month, The Star reported that the FBI issued a memo to the Metro Nashville Police Department, discouraging the release of “legacy tokens” from mass shooters to prevent future perpetrators from seeking inspiration from such materials.

In a Twitter thread on June 12 by Daily Wire Host Matt Walsh, excerpts from Hale’s diary obtained by the conservative media outlet were shared. One entry in the handwritten diary expressed Hale’s longing for parents who would accept their child regardless of differences in viewpoints and who would listen to their children rather than impose their opinions.

Another entry titled “Imaginary Penis” delved into Hale’s struggle with gender identity, with statements like “My penis exists in my head” and “I swear to God I’m a male.” The diary also revealed Hale’s frustration at not being able to experience certain aspects of male anatomy due to being biologically female.

“Having a brain like mine has its godliness but also prone to making poor decisions,” Hale wrote.
