Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A father has been taken into custody following accusations that he tried to drown his children at a beach in Connecticut, in what authorities are describing as a “heinous act.” The man, known as 41-year-old Romney Desronvil from Queens, New York, allegedly made a deliberate attempt to drown the two children on Saturday, according to the West Haven Police Department.

Law enforcement officials reported that an officer on patrol in West Haven observed a Nissan SUV and heard “significant screaming” coming from the beach at around 2:30 a.m. Upon approaching the scene, the officer witnessed the adult male and the children in the water, drifting away. The father allegedly instructed the officer to “stay back” after entering the water.

Several agencies converged at the beach to assist in rescuing the children. The West Haven Police Department did not disclose the ages of the children involved in the incident. “Officers immediately entered the water and were nearly 100 yards away from shore at this time,” stated the press release, noting that the West Shore Fire Department dispatched a fire boat to the area.

The initial officer managed to retrieve the children and bring them back to shore. Emergency responders administered life-saving procedures at the scene before transporting the children to a local hospital, where they were admitted to the intensive care unit, as per police reports from Saturday.

West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer informed local media that the children’s mother travelled from New York to be by their side. The charges against Desronvil are pending, and detectives are currently investigating the incident. USA TODAY reached out to the West Haven Police Department and District Attorney’s Office for additional statements.

“It is without a doubt the swift response by our patrol officers that saved the lives of these children,” affirmed the police in the release. “The communication and collaborative efforts made by the West Shore Fire Department and eventually the New Haven Police Department facilitated immediate medical assistance and led to the apprehension of Desronvil.”

West Haven is situated approximately 5 miles away from New Haven.
