Virginia State Police have launched an investigation into a tragic incident that occurred on Spruce Street in Henry County on the early morning of Friday, June 21.
Reports from VSP indicate that the crash took place at 12:07 a.m. when a 2006 Ford F250 travelling eastbound on Spruce Street veered across the centre line and collided head-on with a 2012 Jeep Liberty. The impact of the collision caused the F250 to overturn and catch fire, while the Jeep veered off the left side of the road.
Tragically, the driver of the Jeep, identified as Michael L. Poynter from Martinsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is noted that Poynter was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
On the other hand, the driver of the Ford sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
