TARZANA — Authorities have provided more information about the tragic death of a 45-year-old man in Tarzana following a tense 16-hour standoff with police.
The incident began on Thursday morning when officers responded to a call regarding a domestic violence situation in the 5700 block of Etiwanda Avenue. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim, who revealed that she and the suspect, identified as Marlon Jimenez, had a history of domestic abuse. The victim had visible injuries that she claimed were inflicted by Jimenez.
When officers attempted to confront Jimenez, he became confrontational and retreated into a bedroom, claiming to have a knife. He barricaded himself inside, prompting the deployment of SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team.
After hours of negotiation, SWAT officers entered the room and found Jimenez lying face down on the floor with a ligature around his neck, connected to the bed frame. A loaded 9mm pistol, reported stolen, was found next to his hand.
The LAPD’s force investigation division is currently conducting an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Jimenez’s death.
