In April of this year, a concerned family member reached out to the Tafuna Police Substation (TPS) in American Samoa to report an incident involving her sister. The sister allegedly assaulted their tenant after the tenant refused to lend her money.

Charges and Bail Set

The suspect, identified as Lesieli Fanene, was later apprehended and charged with several offences, including Private Peace Disturbance, Assault in the Third Degree, and Property Damage in the Second Degree. The defendant’s bail was set at $2,000.

Incident Details

According to the police report, the incident took place on April 29, 2024, at a property in Malaeimi. The victim, a 49-year-old individual, called the TPS to report that Lesieli was attempting to engage in a physical altercation with her over a monetary dispute.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers spoke with the victim and Lesieli’s sister, who provided details of the incident. The victim explained that Lesieli demanded $200 from her, and when the victim refused, Lesieli became aggressive and threatened to harm her and damage her property.

The victim stated that she felt threatened and called for assistance. Lesieli’s sister intervened to prevent further escalation of the situation. The victim also mentioned that Lesieli physically attacked her, causing minor injuries.

Arrest and Confession

Following a report from another individual about Lesieli’s whereabouts, officers located and apprehended her. She was taken to the TPS for processing, where she admitted to some of the allegations made against her. Lesieli was then transferred to the Tafuna Correctional Facility for confinement.

Legal Status

Lesieli Fanene, a 25-year-old U.S. National, is currently facing charges related to the assault incident. The case is ongoing, and further legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the charges brought against her.
