Accident – Death – Obituary News : A member of the Tripura Students Federation (TSF) was reportedly assaulted by supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College in Agartala on Monday. The victim, identified as Khorang Debbarma, was rushed to the GBP Hospital in the state capital for medical treatment.

The incident allegedly occurred following a disagreement between Khorang Debbarma and ABVP supporters regarding an admission-related issue. After the TSF member met with the college principal to file a complaint, he was allegedly attacked by ABVP members.

Manish Debbarma, Vice President of the TSF Agartala Town Committee, condemned the incident and urged the college principal to take strict action against the culprits. He expressed disappointment over the lack of CCTV surveillance on the campus, which hindered the identification of the attackers.

MBB College principal Dr Nirmal Bhadra stated that he had not received any formal complaint except from one student organization. Following the altercation, the police were called to disperse the crowd, and additional security measures have been implemented on campus.

As of the latest reports, there has been no response from ABVP leaders in the state. The TSF, known as one of the oldest tribal student bodies in Tripura, is affiliated with the North East Student Organization (NESO).

In a separate development, four leftist youth and student organizations – DYFI, SFI, TSU, and TYF – staged a protest in Agartala demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest was prompted by alleged irregularities in national selection tests such as NEET UG and UGC-NET.

The incident at MBB College has raised concerns about student safety and the need for enhanced security measures on educational campuses in Tripura. Authorities are urged to take prompt action to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the well-being of students and staff..
