FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A man has been arrested after stealing a Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) cruiser and leading officers on a chase in Fair Oaks on Friday morning.

According to FCPD, the incident took place on Friday, June 21, at around 11:35 a.m., when they received a report of a stolen car near the Fair Oaks Mall.

Upon arrival at the mall, an officer spotted the stolen car parked with three individuals inside. The driver, later identified as 46-year-old Kenton Smith of no fixed address, attempted to walk away from the scene as the officer approached.

As the police tried to apprehend Smith, one of the passengers, identified as 30-year-old Eric Gutierrez from Ashland, allegedly made a daring move. Gutierrez reportedly exited the stolen car and took off in the officer’s unmarked police cruiser.

Mayfield-Jackson was also taken to the Adult Detention Center where she was served with two outstanding warrants. She remains in custody without bond.
