Jesus Puebla received his sentence in a Weld County courtroom on Friday afternoon. The judge sentenced him to more than a decade in prison for his role in the fatal collision.

Details of the Crash

The incident occurred on June 13, 2022, when Puebla’s mail truck crashed into the back of an SUV, causing the deaths of a family from Gillette, Wyoming. The collision also led to another vehicle being struck, resulting in severe injuries to the driver. Puebla was found guilty of five counts of vehicular homicide, as well as one count each of vehicular assault, careless driving, and reckless driving in March.

Prosecution’s Statement

Yvette Guthrie, the deputy district attorney for the 19th Judicial District, described the crash as an act of “traffic terrorism.” She emphasized that the families affected by the tragedy have been dealing with the trauma and loss on a daily basis. Guthrie’s statement highlighted the deliberate nature of Puebla’s actions on that fateful day.
